LIVING YOUR BEST HEALTH
The World Health Organization has named over 100,000 conditions or diseases. Health, on the other hand, has one name not found in any of those! Stated simply, health is body, mind and spirit in wholesome balance. You are energized, productive, fulfilled, happy, at peace and well. So, if you’re not living your best health but would really like to get there, here are four insightful things to ponder:
Thoughts and Emotions
Right now you might feel uneasy, stressed, very much alone and even fearful. Perhaps you’ve been putting up with a named condition. We’ve all experienced this place of discomfort, knowing that a decision must be made on which way to proceed. A Greek philosopher, Heraclitus, is considered the author of the quote, “There is nothing permanent except change.” This probably was stated in similar ways by many people down through the ages since it is a good reminder of the forward-moving progression of life. To experience growth or make progress in any area, choices need to be made and proper action taken. Recognizing this becomes a life-defining moment.
Challenges in Changes
Down deep you know some changes need to be made, but you ask, “What do I do?” To seek wisdom on how to proceed successfully is wisdom on your part. People from far and wide traveled to hear the exceptional wisdom of Solomon, a king of ancient Israel, as word about him spread. This brief proverb written by King Solomon shows why seeking wisdom from others is important:
Where no counsel is, the people fall:
but in the multitude of counselors there is safety.”
Where To Find Wisdom
Transformations to health necessitate seeking help from those who have the qualifications to assist you. Along with that, you must know that these basic requirements will be met:
- They have your best interests at heart.
- You know, like and trust them which instills confidence as well as peace of mind.
- They walk the talk, having a proven track record of successes.
- They are skilled in teaching (mentoring or coaching).
- They motivate and inspire you to achieve greater success than your expectations.
Reliable Teacher (Mentor/Coach)
Perhaps you recognize that prevention and healthy living has not been as important a focus as it should have been. When you are shown a beautiful painting, you first capture the essence, and then marvel at the amazing execution of detail. The big picture is perceiving health in its true light.* Then, you fill in with the details which you will put into practice on a day to day basis. Accomplishing this is very much an art.
If the progression to a named disease is evident, what are you personally doing to change it? What areas of your life need tweaking to healthier living? Self-help is vital, and empowering education is necessary. Along with the art, you must embrace the science. Appreciate the human body with its incredible design, functions and what is required for health. The more you learn, the more you marvel at the capacity of our human body and its brilliant inner workings!
So, now it’s decision time!
The decision to positively impact your life by living your best health reminds me of a famous poem–The Road Less Traveled. Pay particular attention to the thoughts and emotion being expressed contemplating the choice, and the wonderful outcome:
THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED
By Robert Frost
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
