You typically would hear the title of today’s blog the other way around, i.e. What is The Solution to Pollution? Follow along as I explain the reason for the question phrased in this way.
I decided to enjoy a lovely breeze, sunshine, birds singing, and white fluffy clouds while I write a blog about my new book just published on Amazon. As I turned the patio chair to face a little grove of trees, a 6″ lizard apparently was startled from his resting place on the leg. I said, “Oh, sorry little guy. Enjoy your day!” as he scurried away.
With my laptop on my laptop desk, I settled in and felt a few things crawling on my bare feet. Now I knew why the lizard took up residence where he did. There were a goodly number of little ants crawling around. As a few bit my feet, I thought about the typical “solution” for most folks– run and get the can of pesticide spray and bomb the heck out of them. Now really, “IS POLLUTION THE SOLUTION?” What do you think?
I took a couple of minutes to make up a little spray bottle with non-toxic dish detergent, water, and a few drops of tea tree oil. Meanwhile, I knew cinnamon would discourage them but I would use that for my homemade granola. I shook up the spray mixture and wet the surface around my chair. I wasn’t intending to kill them, just have them find another area to play. They took their leave into the grass, and I resumed my typing of this blog.
Now, this is a perfect example of what I mean. We address little insects with poison and poison ourselves little by little. We say there isn’t enough food for everyone, so we genetically modify it and put pesticides in the DNA code of the seed. We don’t know where else to dump the toxic waste, so we ship it around the world to numerous ports until some country or corporation is attracted by the payout for dumping. Industrial waste is conveniently dumped or shall we say finds its ways into rivers and streams. The oceans become a veritable gigantic toilet to hold the world’s refuse from war equipment, weapons, and radioactive waste.
Really, Is Pollution The Solution?
Think about all the toxins we now have to contend with in our environment. And, what comes to mind? How about the slogan, “Better Living Through Chemistry”? Pollution became the solution.
